2.5 More Weeks..Hopefully!

This past week has been quite the adventure. Scott and I had quite a scare on Thursday when I had all the signs of labour beginning...6 weeks too early! Fortunately our midwives are fantastic and were on the ball. We went for an emergency ultrasound on Friday and thankfully he is doing well and is not distressed (not like we were). The only thing missing from the labour equation is my cervix is still intact...changing yes, but still intact. So I am now on permanent rest for the next 2.5 weeks until we have reached the point where it is safe for him to come out. But thank god I don't have to lay around all day. I am allowed to go for a short walk (1 block) and am able to still do limited things like car rides and eating at restaurants. We have another ultrasound this week and have been warned to get ready as he could come at any time. I am just hoping that we don't have to have a C-section done...I really wanted to have this baby (masochistic? No, I just want to be able to be a mom and not healing from major surgery)

Bye for now,
Alex

8.5 Months Pregnant

Blogging is hard!!! I have been having a hard time keeping up with writing and taking photo's as life has been a roller coaster these past few weeks. I have been told that I have been over doing it...shocking!....and so I have had to spend the past week or so laying low. It felt more like house arrest than anything. But I am excited that today I am finally feeling well enough to venture outside of the house...I have simply been way too tired and sore to do anything for quite a while. Well except for the disappointing Canucks game I waddled to on Saturday. Which I must thank Scott for taking me to. He was very sweet about it, he even paid $35 for us to park literally across the street from our gate, so I had very few steps to take between our car and seats in GM Place. Too bad the Canucks played sucko.

As for the pregnancy, everything is back on track now. I was quite anemic for a while, and am now on iron drinks...which are disgusting and give me instant heartburn. I am also on Probiotics to help reduce the possibility of having to be on IV antibiotics during labor...apparently 30% of women have to do this and taking probiotics for a few months before labor can greatly reduce my chances. I will have a blood test done in a week or two to see if I am even at risk...but until then I will take the extra pill in hopes I don't really need it. On my last visit to my midwife my tummy was measuring a little small and I hadn't gained any weight over the 2 weeks between appointments, but the little guy is a kicker so I know he is still going strong in there. I have my next appointment this Thursday, so hopefully I have caught up in size and weight. I guess one thing to be grateful for is no stretch marks yet!!! Who knew my skin was so stretchy? Although my baby books say that my body will produce a baby that fits my body, so that may also be why he is a little smaller...I was under 6 pounds, 21 inches long, and a week overdue. Us Lihou's are tall and thin from the beginning!
Speaking of relatives, I am beginning to daydream about what this little guy looks like. In the ultrasound in January, I thought he looked like Scott. But I also am wondering what he will inherit from me...I actually hope he inherits some of my genes! On my dad's side the men are typically tall, thin, have dark hair, can sing....and my mom's side is blond with blue eyes...I am an anomaly in my family....and no I don't believe I am adopted...I have had this conversation with my mom.
I will try to get some pictures taken of my ever growing belly...I can't wait till he is born, constant feet in the ribs is a little wearing after a while!
bye for now,
Alex

In our 7th month

Time has definitely been slipping by, we can't believe we are in the third trimester already! I have not been able to make much time for the blog this past month or two, but hopefully that will change soon. I am in the final stretch of my semester, and boy has grad school taken over my life!! I have now finished my papers and oral presentations, but still have one final exam and assignment left to complete in the next week. After that, my focus will be on getting the house in order and taking time to relax and visit with friends before we become Gibson party of 3!

As for my health, I recently suffered though bronchitis for over a month, it just wouldn't clear up! I also had a scare which saw my mom and I at Women's Hospital at midnight one night. Unfortunately Scott was in Switzerland at the time, but luckily he was due home shortly after. Things seem to be going okay now, but I am still a little nervous. I had my test for gestational diabetes a while ago, and will get my results at my midwife appointment this week. Other than that, I am just a little more tired, my memory is rapidly failing, I have a tough time sleeping, and have a pretty nasty back ache most of the time. But all in all, I consider myself quite lucky.

I have a new chiropractor, Omar, at Chiroworks who sees lots of pregnant women as there is a fertility clinic next door. He seems to have a good understanding of how my body is reacting to the stresses of pregnancy. I have been having quite sore joints (knee, carpal tunnel in my left wrist, and back). I am having a prenatal massage tomorrow, on his advice, and I can't wait!!!

After my classes are done, Scott and I are heading out of town for a few days to relax and have one more adventure while it is still just the two of us. For those who have been suggesting baby names, thank you!!! We have been compiling a list and will have it on hand at the hospital.

As for a baby shower, as many of you have been asking about, my good friends Cara and January are hosting one towards the end of May. If you want to come, please let me know as I am beginning a list of guests to invite this week.

I will post some pictures soon....

Baby Furniture

Our baby furniture has arrived and Scott and I managed put it together without too much of a problem (We have heard that assembling a crib can be a test of one's will). We also have our stroller and car seat. The bedding is from Restoration Hardware, along with our curtains. We are having our friend Ryan, of MNR contracting, who renovated our bathroom, return to paint the nursery. Things are coming together!

Alex at 6 Months!

I know these are about a month late being posted...but life got a little hectic to say the least.

6 Months Already!!??

Today marks our entrance into the 6th month of pregnancy, and the last month of our 2nd trimester. I am trying desperatly to hold onto this period in my pregnancy, but it is only progressing too quickly now. I feel sooo much better pregnancy wise, which is a good thing since I have been really sick for over a week now with a terrible cold. Oh how I wish I could have a little cough medicine or nasal decongestant!!!

We had another appointment with our midwife last week, and we are pleased to let you know that everything is progressing well. I have now gained 18 pounds since prepregnancy (scary considering he only weighs just over 1 pound...there better be a heck of a lot of amniotic fluid in there to account for the other 17 pounds!!!) and my belly size is right on track for how far along we are. Scott is pleased to anounce that his belly has not grown an inch, even with me eating constantly in front of him. My blood pressure is still on the lower end and both of our heart rates are great.

As for the baby room, we have ordered a crib and dresser which will hopefully arrive in the next few weeks. We also now have an infant car seat and stroller...which I bought a fabulous diaper bag to go with. My new mantra: Life is too short for an ugly diaper bag. Hey I have to put most of my energy into accessorizing now that I am limited in my clothing and flat shoes! We plan on having the baby room painted as I have had to retire my roller and brush...me on a ladder just doesn't sound to smart. I am still on the search for baby bedding. I find most of it very cheaply made and extremely over priced. Potterybarn Kids is opening up this weekend so I hope to be able to find something there....

Anyways, I am off for a walk on the seawall to soak up the sunshine with my mom and Murphy this afternoon.
