January Health Update and Midwife Appointment

Happy New Year everyone!
Now that Christmas has wound down it is back to reality. This up coming week I begin my first semester as a graduate student. I am sure it will be challenging, and even more so being pregnant.

Lately I have been feeling a little more pregnant. I almost wish my bump was more noticable so others would understand why I feel so rotten. Over the past few weeks my constant exhaustion has continued and have also been getting wicked headaches and really bad heartburn. I have had to limit my diet (even more so than it already was) to exclude acidic foods. I love citrus foods, so this is going to be tough. I am hoping that I will be able to reintroduce a few of my favorites such as orange juice and tomatoes over time. On the brighter side, my morning sickness is all but gone but am still extremely sensitive to scents.

We went to our second appointment with our midwife on Friday. It is really great having such strong support while navigating through the unknown for us. Scott and I were able to hear the baby's heart beat (142 beats per minute) and we were shown how to feel my stomach for the womb. (it is up to my belly button now!) This week I have to go for blood work to check my platlets and hemoglobin levels as I was experiencing strange bruising. We have also decided to check our babies probability for Spina Bifida and Downs Syndrom.

We go for our second ultrasound at the end of the month. Apparently we will be able to find out the sex if we want to as we will be in our 20th week (that's half way...eeeck!) I am looking forward to seeing the little bun again as I feel like there is no communication between us. Although this will all change any day (or in a few weeks) when I will be able to feel movment finally.

Bye for now

Alex
